The Rainy Season

This afternoon as I looked south towards our driveway that divides our garden and barn it appeared there was a flood of water forming a lake in the low lying areas. The garden area where I planted dahlias was completely flooded and the peas in that bed had yellowed from having wet feet so the crop was terminated this past week. Smitten with Sadie, like a grandchild but a grand dog

It all started when my son, a junior in college, asked me to help him find a puppy last summer. By late October, I found myself driving to Illinois with him to pick up his puppy. She has stole our hearts and livened things up at the farm just a bit with her weekend visits. If only I can capture her in motion as she races around the barnyard chasing after cats or my dog Meg then you can truly see her personality shine through my camera lens...take a look...

The Safe Keeping of Rams

On our small farm we currently breed about 65 ewes and we use 3 rams to get all the ewes bred. Our rams weigh anywhere from 250 to 350 pounds and tend to have a bit of mean streak in them. Nine months out of the year, we keep the rams penned up to avoid someone getting hurt...like me. In order to keep them from getting lonely, we try to keep another sheep with them. Recently, I had all three rams break out of their pens in a single day!

Lost My Best Friend

Lost My Best Friend

It's been three weeks since I lost my best friend. He has been my loyal companion for the past eight years. He often slept by my bedside waiting for me to wake up to check on lambs in the middle of the night. His affectionate personality was capable of charming almost anyone he met and he would become your best friend briefly if you threw his Frisbee for him. He could communicate his needs in a subtle whimper or often boisterous way when he was ready for me to let him inside.
